Marvic Castelo Sotto (born April 28, 1954), known as Vic Sotto, is a Filipino actor, television show host, comedian, and film producer who worked for the three major TV stations GMA Network, TV5 and ABS-CBN. He owns a film and TV production outfit named M - Zet Productions. He is one of the pioneer hosts of Eat Bulaga! which is the longest running noon-time variety show in the Philippines. He won three consecutive titles for Philippine Box Office King (2004, 2005, and 2006).

Marvic Castelo Sotto was born on April 28, 1954 to Marcelino Ojeda Sotto, Sr. and Dr. Herminia Castelo. He studied at Colegio de San Juan de Letran. He is the brother of Marcelino "Maru" Sotto, Jr., Vicente "Tito" Sotto, and Valmar "Val" Sotto

He started his career as a folk singer and guitarist. During these years, Sotto was also the lead vocalist of the disco funk band VST & Company. He produced such songs as "Awitin Mo at Isasayaw Ko", "Rock, Baby, Rock", and "Kung Sakali".

He joined his brothers Tito and Val in the early 1970s gag show OK Lang under IBC 13. This is where he met another comedian, Joey de Leon, who invited the brothers to join him. The trio of Tito, Vic and Joey (TVJ) was thus formed, casting in Iskul Bukol, TVJ (Television's Jesters), Rock and Roll 2000 and hosting Eat Bulaga!

In the last three decades, he has done sitcoms and television shows for 3 networks, ABS-CBN, GMA Network and TV5 (most of which were for GMA).

Sotto has 4 children from previous relationships: Vico Sotto (with actress Coney Reyes), Danica Sotto-Pingris and Oyo Sotto (with actress Dina Bonnevie) and Paulina Sotto (with former commercial model / TV actress Angela Luz).

Sotto confirmed his engagement to Eat Bulaga! co-host Pauleen Luna last September 2015. The couple married last January 30, 2016 at Ayala Alabang, Muntinlupa City

Diego (Jomari Yllana), a fisherman and husband of Pilar (Mylene Dizon), is accused and tortured for being a guerilla. Pilar begs the head of the garrison, Capt. Hiroshi Sugimoto (Kenji Motoki), for the release of her husband. Grateful for the conditional freedom of Diego and desiring to protect further her family, Pilar offers to be a wet nurse to Hiroshi's newborn son whose birth cost the life of Carmen, his Filipino wife. Diego takes this act suspiciously and resentfully, never understanding the motherly instinct the prompts Pilar to care for the baby and her desire for survival. The conflict in the story arises when Pilar has to choose between patriotism and her motherly instinct to protect innocent children. Further, her heart is now torn between her realistic love for Diego and her romantic love for the benevolent Hiroshi. Where will this lead her?

This beautiful film illustrates patriotism and the possible birth of a new race in the midst of war. It is also the story of the most universal feeling: love�for a lover, for a husband, for a child. All these are presented without heavy theatrical drama. The merits of Gatas lie in the cast's performance and the competence of Portes as director. Excellent cinematography highlights the bucolic scenes, the artistic lovemaking, and the intimate moments between a mother and her child. The film affirms Mylene Dizon's good acting. Kenji Motoki, in his first film, sensitively fulfills the requirements of his role as a Japanese officer at war. Jomari Yllana likewise shows his proficiency as an actor.

The plight of the Filipinos during the Japanese occupation sets the milieu for the film. But in the middle of this setting is a touching story between two people thrown into a difficult situation during the turbulent times of war. There is an old adage which runs "love knows no barrier" and the relationship that develops between Pilar and Hiroshi proves this. But this is not a justification for an illicit relationship? Even as love "strips off" race, religion, social status and traditions, one can rightfully say that nobody ever wins in a war.

Alfie Anido (1959 - 1981)

Alfie Anido (December 31, 1959 – December 30, 1981) was a popular Filipino matinee idol best remembered for his tragic death at the age of 22. He was the eldest of four children of Alberto Anido and Sara Serrano, and was the brother of Albert Anido, another Filipino actor.

Born Alfonso Serrano Anido, he was also a fashion and commercial model before he became a contract star for Regal Films, a leading Filipino film production company. He was dubbed as one of the Regal Babies, along with other than-young actors such as Gabby Concepcion, William Martinez, Albert Martinez, Jimi Melendez, Maricel Soriano, Snooky Serna and Dina Bonnevie. He was famously linked with Bonnevie, his co-star in the 1980 camp classic Temptation Island. At the time of his entry into show business, he was in college at the Ateneo de Manila University taking up Management.

To date, an air of mystery still surrounds the circumstances behind Anido's death. The official version, contemporaneously reported in the mainstream Manila media, was that Anido had shot himself in a suicide. This version has not been officially or authoritatively contradicted to this day. However, immediately after his death, rumors quickly spread that Anido was actually murdered, and that such fact was covered up owing to the prominence of the personalities allegedly involved. The rumor gained traction in Manila, which was then under the throes of the authoritarian rule of Ferdinand Marcos, whose government controlled the mass media during that period. Other versions on the death of Anido were printed in the alternative press such as the Philippine Collegian, the official student organ of the University of the Philippines, a hotbed of anti-Marcos activism. While the rumor that Alfie Anido was murdered still persists, with the aura of an urban legend, the fact remains that no evidence has been put forth to rebut the official version of a suicide.

On February 2004, he resigned as VRB chair, to run for Senate, replacing his father Ramon Revilla, whose third-term ended on June 30, 2004. He recommend ed Edu Manzano as his VRB replacement.

Running under the administration K-4 coalition, he won in the 2004 Senatorial elections and received the second highest number of votes from the national electorate.

In the Philippine Centennial celebrations, he portrayed General Emilio Aguinaldo. To highlight the celebrations on June 12, 1998, he and Lani remarried in through church wedding using the same costume they used in the centennial. He married Lani Mercado (Jesusa Victoria Hernandez Bautista) in 1987 in a civil wedding.

Became a popular figure in reducing optical media piracy in the Philippines. Due to his efforts, he was given a Plaque of International Recognition for Efforts Against Piracy by the Motion Picture Association of America on July 23, 2003 and the Huwarang Lingkod Bayan Award by the Consumers League of the Philippines Foundation, Inc. on October 25, 2003.

Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, after assuming the Philippines presidency, rewarded Revilla with the chairmanship of the Videogram Regulatory Board (now Optical Media Board) for his support in the Edsa II.

His family was close to actor Joseph Estrada, but he joined EDSA II Rally and asked for the resignation of the then Philippines president in January 2001. His participation was a widely used topic in the May 2001 local elections. Revilla lost to Cavite congressman Erineo "Ayong" Maliksi as governor of Cavite.

He assumed the governor seat of Cavite when Epimaco Velasco was appointed in February of 1998 by President 'Fidel Ramos' to head the Interior and Local Government replacing then Senatorial candidate Robert Barbers. In the May 1998 local elections, Revilla defeated the returning Juanito Remulla for the position of governor.

Started in politics as vice-governor of his home province of Cavite in the Philippines. He was invited by then newly-retired National Bureau of Investigation director-general Epimaco Velasco to be his running mate as Vice Governor of Cavite. In the 1995 local elections, Velasco and Revilla won as governor and vice governor beating the Remullas who dominated the Cavite political arena since the 1980s.

Made several charity works for the province through the RRJ Foundation Inc. which he founded and presides.

He was elected as vice-governor of Cavite (Philippines) in 1995, assumed as governor in 1998. He won a Senate post in 2004.

A Filipino actor and politician. He followed his father's footstep as an actor and politician.

Ang pelikulang ito ay lumikha ng ingay nang tangkain ng Spanish community na harangin ang pagpapalabas nito dahil sa implikasyong political. Bagamat dalawang magkasunod na sunog ang tumupok sa studio ni Nepomuceno, hindi siya nawalan ng pag-asa o nasiraan ng loob sa bunga ng naturang sunog. Bumili siya ng panibagong mga kagamitan sa pelikula at nagtayo ng panibagong studio. Kinuha niyang kasosyo si Vicente Salumbides.

Si VICENTE SALUMBIDES ay isa rin sa mga pioneer sa paggawa ng pelikulang Pilipino. Malawak din ang kaalaman ni Salumbides pagdating sa paggawa ng pelikula. Nag-aral siya ng pagkathang pelikula, pag-arte at pagdirihe sa Hollywood. Doon siya nagtrabaho bilang ekstra sa Famous Players ng Lasky Studio. 

 Una niyang ginawa ang Miracles Of Love (1925) kung saan niya itinama ang mga depekto ng mga nakaraang pelikula katulad ng pag-apply ng make-up sa mga artista. Nakita niya ang depekto ng mga pelikula ni Yearsley na walang make-up ang mga artista kaya maiitim ang labas sa pelikula at masyado namang maputi kung sobra ang nilalagay na make-up sa mga pelikula ni Nepomuceno.

 Doon niya nai-apply ang make-up technique na natutunan niya sa Hollywood. Siya rin ang nag-angkin ng iba’t ibang inobasyon sa paggawa ng pelikula tulad ng paggamit ng “close up” para maipakita ang emosyon sa mukha ng gumaganap na aktor, “vision” para mailarawan ang kaisipan ng karakter, at “cutback scenes” upang mapabilis ang eksena ng katatakutan o aksiyon.

 Upang maiwasan ang mabagal na usad ng sarsuwela sa mga pelikula ni Nepomuceno, hinikayat ni Salumbides ang mga hindi gumaganap sa sarsuwela na gumanap sa kanyang mga pelikula tulad ng mga miyembro ng high society sa Maynila na mababa ang tingin sa sarsuwela at mataas kapag Hollywood films na ang pag-uusapan. 

 Bagamat mala-Hollywood-ish ang appeal ng pelikula ni Salumbides gaya ng mga titulong ingles na Miracles of Love (1925), The Soul Saver (1928), Fate or Consequence (1926), ang mga ito’y hindi nakausad sa pagpataas ng kalidad sa puntong teknikal dahilan sa kakapusan sa makabagong kasangkapang pampelikula at ang mga ito’y panay istorya ng pag-iibigan at romansa lamang.

Walang Sugat (1913)

Ang ikalawang pagtatangka ni Yearsley ng paggawa ng pelikula ay isang sikat na paboritong sarsuwela, ang Walang Sugat. Ito’y tinampukan ng Compania de Zarzuela Tagala ni Severino Reyes, na siya ring lumikha ng bersiyon sa teatro at pelikula. Ito rin ang huling pelikula ni Yearsley dahil sa ang kanyang Majestic Theater ay nasunog at siya’y nalugi.

El Fusilamiento de Rizal (1912)

Nalaman ng isa ring Amerikanong si Albert Yearsley, may-ari ng Cine Majestic ang ginagawang pelikula nina Gross at Brown, at nagsimula rin siyang kumuha ng mga artistang gaganap sa gagawin niyang pelikulang batay rin sa buhay ni Dr. Jose Rizal at ito ay ang pagsasapelikula ng mga huling sandali ng buhay ni Rizal. Tinawag niya itong La Pasion y Muerte de Dr. Rizal, o El Fusilamiento de Rizal. Para lamang maunahan niya si Dr. Gross sa pagpapalabas ng kanyang pelikula, kinunan niya ang mga eksena ng madalian upang makahabol sa pagpapalabas ng pelikula ni Gross ng Agosto 24. Ang bahagi ng pagbaril kay Rizal ay kinunan ni Yearley noong Agosto 22, hindi sa Bagumbayan kung saan binaril si Rizal, kundi sa North Cemetery ng Maynila samantalang si Gross ay kinunan ang mga eksenang kung saan talaga naganap ang mga pangyayari. Noong gabi ng Agosto 22, ipinakita ni Yearsley sa publiko ang mga rushes ng kanyang bersyon at ipinalabas ang kabuuan nito kinabukasan, isang gabi bago ang pagpapalabas ng pelikula ni Gross sa Grand Opera House.

Philippine Movie History: The American Producer

Dalawang Amerikano ang nag-unahan sa paggawa ng kauna-unahang pelikulang batay sa buhay ng isang Pilipino. Si Dr. Edward Gross ay awtor ng isang dula, ang La Vida de Rizal na naging isang malaking hit sa takilya ng teatro. Siya ang asawa ni Titay Molina na isang artista ng bodabil. Si H. Brown ang nag-produce ng pelikula na tinampukan ng dramatic troupe ni Titay Molina, ang Molina-Benito Company.

Mga Sinaunang Sinehan sa Maynila

at sinundan ng mga iba pa tulad ng Paz, Cabildo, Empire, Majestic, Comedia, Apollo, Ideal, Luz at Gaiety na natatag mula 1909 hanggang 1911.

Ang Zorilla, na isang palabasan ng mga sarsuwela at opera ay nagpalabas na rin ng mga pelikula sa huling taon ng 1909 habang ang Grand Opera House ay nagsama ng mga pelikula sa gitna ng mga palabas na bodabil noong 1910.

Pelikula noong 1903

Noong 1903, isang Pilipino na nagngangalang Jose Jimenez ang nagtayo ng kauna-unahang sinehan na pag-aari ng isang Pilipino, ang Cinematografo Rizal. Ito’y nasa Azcarraga Street (Recto ngayon) na nasa harapan ng istasyon ng tren sa Tutuban. Sinundan ito ng isa pang sinehan na pag-aari din ng isang Pilipino, ang Cinematografo Filipino sa Tondo.

Ang patuloy na progreso ng mga produksyong pampelikula sa Europa at Amerika ay nagresulta ng pagtatatag ng mga ahensiyang nagdadala ng mga pelikula mula Europa at Amerika sa Maynila katulad ng Pathe Freres Cinema nuong July 1909. Dahilan sa matatag na supply ng mga pelikula sa murang panimulang halaga, nag-usbong ang maraming sinehan katulad ng Cine Anda na nagbukas noong August 8, 1909

Sinaunang Pagtatanghal

Bago pa man ipinakilala ang pelikula sa Pilipinas, ang mga Kastila ang siyang nagpalaganap ng pagtatanghal ng mga dula o drama sa entablado na noong panahong iyon ay laganap sa mga bansang Europeo. Una rito, bago dumating ang mga Kastila ay may mga katutubong sayaw at awitin na ang itinatanghal ng mga katutubong Pilipino tulad ng mga ritwal sa digmaan, kasalan, patay at kung anu-ano pa. Mayroon ding mga tulang nagsasagutan ang magkatunggali.

Ninais ng mga Kastila na palaganapin ang Kristiyanismo sa pamamagitan ng mga dula na naglalarawan sa paghihirap ni Kristo, ipinakilala ang Senakulo. Ito ang dahilan upang pawiin ng mga Kastila ang mga ritwal ng paganismo sa Pilipinas. Makalipas din ang ilang panahon ay sumunod ang Komedya at Moro-Moro at bago natapos ang 1800, ang sarsuwela.

Unang nagpalabas ng pelikula noong August 31, 1897, isang taon matapos ang rebolusyon. Dalawang mangangalakal na Swiso, sina Ginoong Leibman at Peritz, ang nagtayo ng isang movie hall sa No. 31 Escolta, malapit sa panulukan ng San Jacinto, na ngayon ay Tomas Pinpin Street sa distrito ng Sta. Cruz na sentro ng middle class na mangangalakal at residensiyal nuong panahong iyon. Ang mga serye ng film strips na ipinalabas ay tulad ng The Czar’s Carriage Passing Place de la Concorde, An Arabian Cortege, Snow Games, Card Players and A Train’s Arrival.

Dahilan sa maraming kinaharap na problema tulad ng pag-antala ng pagdating ng mga pelikula mula sa Europa at unti-unting paghina ng pagdalo ng mga tao sa panonood sa dahilang paulit-ulit na lamang ang pagpapalabas ng mga pelikula, natigil ang pagpapalabas sa mga huling araw ng Nobyembre 1897 at ang movie hall na itinayo nina Leibman at Peritz ay napilitang isara.

Ang pagpapalabas ng pelikula ay muling inulit nuong 1900 at ang unang nagtayong muli ng sinehan ay isang British na nagngangalang Walgrah na tinawag na Cine Walgrah sa No. 60 Calle Santa Rosa, Intramuros. Matapos ang dalawang taon, noong 1902, isang sinehan muli ang itinayo, sa Quiapo, na isang lugar na sentro na ng pangangalakal at residensiyal noon pang panahong iyon. Ito ay pag-aari ng isang mangangalakal na nagngangalang Samuel Rebarber. Tinawag niyang Gran Cinematografo Parisien ang naturang sinehan at ito’y nasa No. 80, Calle Crespo.
