Operetang Sampay-Bakod (1958) - Dolphy, Amalia Fuentes & Jose Mari

Another movie where the Dolphy and Panchito tandem led the cast.

The duo played patriarchs of their respective families who stage and perform operetas or musical plays in their hometown.

They wanted at least two of their respective children to follow their footsteps so they sent them to Manila to study classical music. But this was not meant to be, since this was the era of the start of rock and roll and other related music, a different kind of music was learned.

This caused a generation gap between the older folks and the young ones, but later both sides came into a compromise when a member of the younger generation was involved in a vehicular accident which made her disabled. This compromise was in the opereta where the two generations switched roles.

The older ones performed rock and roll and other related music acts while the younger ones did the classical music acts.

There was a song in the former’s acts where Dolphy’s character as “Kiko” became “Frankie”.

Amalia...na-stroke!

MY dear friend Ms. Divina Valencia (my other mom sa showbiz actually) texted me yesterday asking for prayers for her colleague Ms. Amalia Fuentes, Tita Nena to many of us, dahil nasa Korea raw ito ngayon at doon dinale ng stroke and currently confined sa isang undisclosed hospital.

Actually, ilang araw ko nang nabalitaan ito through a blind item and someone very close to me whispered na si Tita Nena nga raw ang tinutukoy doon. Bigla akong nag-flashback sa beautiful moments ko with Tita Nena who became very close to me too.

Ha-hahaha!” she would fondly tell me noon.

Siyempre, with Tita Nena around, no dull moments. And meron siyang karapatang magtaray dahil siya si Ms. Amalia Fuentes, ‘no!

“Mahal kita Jobert, I just love you and Boy Abunda. You are just very special to me,” ang madalas niyang sinasambit sa akin na siyempre’y ikinakapa-flatter ko talaga.

Kasi nga humihina na ang ating system kaya sana ay tulong-tulong tayong magdasal that she’d be fine. Kahit mataray iyang si Tita Nena she is very sweet in reality.

Pag mahal ka niya, she will fight for you till the end pero pag irita siya sa iyo, walang kinatatakutan iyan.

That’s why I love her. Get well soon, Tita Nena. We love you.
